Wine Making Kits

Making your own wine can be an adventure to say the least. Wine making kits are commercially available to help you with the process. Some just offer the equipment which you can use over and over again. Others also provide you with the juice, concentrate, additives and other ingredients that you will need to create your wine from start to finish.

Typically wine making kits provide the equipment necessary to create 6 gallons of wine which fills 30 normal wine bottles. You do need to realize before you begin that the process can take a long time from start to finish. You might be waiting anywhere from 2 to 6 months before you get to taste your own wine for the first time.

Equipment that you will typically need and which will be included in most wine making kits are:

A fermenting bucket with lid
A 6 gallon glass or plastic carboy
Stoppers for the bucket and carboy
An airlock
A hydrometer
A bottle brush
Siphoning equipment
A corker

Some kits will provide you with corks or bottles depending on your price level. You can also purchase additional wine making supplies for items not included. Overall, the quality of wine created through wine making kits is fairly consistent throughout. While Robert Parker might not be tasting your wine, you can enjoy it with the knowledge that you were responsible for its color, taste, and texture.
